A 5-letter word is hiding in the boxes below the field. Boxes with a letter already
in them are given to you; empty boxes are the ones you need to fill, left to right.
Every green field tile shows a letter. Tap the ones you think hold the right letters,
filling the empty boxes left to right as you go.
Once every box has a letter in it, the whole word checks itself: boxes that are
exactly right turn green and lock in for good. Any box that's wrong just clears back to
empty so you can try again.
Any letter confirmed to not be needed anywhere in the word gets struck through and
deactivated on the field — every tile showing that letter, not just the one you tried.
You won't have to remember it yourself. A letter that's simply in the wrong spot stays
exactly as it was — it may still be needed for one of the other blanks.
Some green tiles show a letter this word doesn't need at all — they look exactly the
same as the tiles that are needed. There's no visual tell; you have to reason it out
(or take an educated guess) from what's already filled in.
Tapped the wrong tile? ⌫, on the right of the letter boxes, undoes just
your most recent click. Clear resets the whole word's progress instead, including
any letters you'd already locked in.
Truly stuck on a word? ⏭, on the left, skips it for a fresh one — no
penalty, but nothing gets revealed for a skipped word either, so it's not a shortcut to
finishing faster, just a way to stop grinding on one you can't see.
Nothing on the field changes until you finish the whole word — then it redraws
with a fresh word and fresh letters.
Solving the Picture
Tap Solve anytime it's available to try naming the picture from a few choices.
You get 3 tries per picture — a wrong one doesn't end the round.
Solving it correctly ends the round right away and shows the full picture on the
results screen.
When Solve turns gold and says "Last Chance!", it's about to lock — one more
word solved and the window closes.
Once locked (or you're out of tries), the button becomes END — tap it to jump
straight to results without finishing every tile.
Scoring & Streaks
Solving the picture scores a percentage — the earlier you solve it, the higher it is,
with a bonus for especially early solves.
Words tracks something different: the percentage of words you got exactly right
on your first try, no do-overs. It's about word-solving accuracy, not picture-guessing speed.
Finishing without ever solving the picture, or hitting END without solving it, breaks
your streak. Your current and best streak (shared across every difficulty level) show on
every results screen.
Themes & Difficulty
Tap Theme to choose which picture collections you're solving from — pick as
many as you like, or leave all of them checked. Every round draws from whatever's
currently selected, but the multiple-choice guesses for any one picture only ever
come from that picture's own collection.
The difficulty dropdown up top changes board size, blank count, and how much
distracting noise is on the field — it doesn't make the pictures easier or harder to
recognize.
Press START when you're ready.
Choose Themes
Pick as many as you like — pictures for each round are drawn from whichever
themes are checked. Multiple-choice guesses always stay scoped to that picture's own theme.
Developer Panel
Clear mode (global, not per-phase):
Clear All reveals every tile actually used to solve a word (faster rounds).
Clear 1 reveals only the tile used for the leftmost blank (slower, closer to TriAdd's 1-tile-per-solve pacing).
Unrevealed leftover correct-uses under Clear 1 do not bank for later — flagged in the spec as "for now, may revisit."
The Chokey:
Last 50 real target words drawn — none of them can be redrawn until they age out.
Persists across sessions (localStorage), so a page reload can't be used to launder a recent repeat back into eligibility.
Clearing it here is a testing convenience only — normal play never needs this.
Snapshots:
Saving applies your on-screen edits first, then captures every tier's full configuration
(same scope as Export Config) plus Clear Mode under this name. Loading a snapshot replaces your current overrides entirely —
there's no undo beyond re-loading whatever you had before.

Phase 5 has no "Rounds to Advance" — it's the steady-state phase; you stay there for the rest of the session.
Blank count is redrawn at every new word (not fixed for a round): Hi% of draws use "High," the rest use High−1 (floored at 1).
Noise Count is a fixed value per phase for v1 (not an independent High/Low draw yet — see design spec open question #1).
Highlighted-tile count is not independently set — it's always (distinct letters the word needs) + (Noise Count).

What's the Picture?
Welcome to PicPeek!
A 5-letter word is missing 1-3 letters. Empty boxes below the field are what you
need to fill, left to right.
Tap the field tile you think holds the next letter you need — get it right and the
box fills in.
Solve the whole word and the field redraws for the next one, slowly revealing a
hidden picture!
That's the basics — tap the ? in the corner anytime for more detail.
